Worldskills Asia 2023 took place in Abu Dhabi, UAE from September 26 to 30. The event involves 115 elite competitors from 14 countries, including ROC (Taiwan), UAE, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines. Minister Mingchun Xu of the Ministry of Labor personally supervised the Taiwanese team, which consists of 31 talented students, among them Juncheng Li, a student from the Department of Interior Design and Civil Engineering, VNU, who had won the Championship of Paintwork and Decoration in the 47th International Skills Competition last September and now representing Taiwan, won another Championship in the Abu Dhabi event.

Flying 6,564 kilometers to Abu Dhabi for this Asian competition event, Juncheng Li’s bags carried the expectations of his teachers and his peers. Being granted the honor of national talent in September, he immediately engaged himself in intensive training programs. Being in the event, aside from getting a vision for international competition, he also won a championship for Taiwan and for his university as well. He thanked President Thomas Chuang of VNU, Dean Sheng, and Chairman Liu for their being so supportive, providing him with remarkable scholarships, excellent coaches, perfect equipment, and great training spaces, so that he could launch himself into the training without worries. He also thanked Minister Xu, Taoyuan-Hsinchu-Miaoli Regional Branch and Yunlin-Chiayi-Tainan Regional Branch of the Workforce Development Agency for providing caring trainers who helped develop his inner resources for international competitions. By way of humbly correcting his personal weakness, Juncheng Li said that he would get ready for the Worldskills International event, which is going to happen in September 2024 in Lyon, France.

‘Vangung University is a great incubator of professional talents’, said President Chuang of VNU, ‘We have been investing a lot on training students over the years and have won dozens of medals in varied competitions. From 2017 to 2023, we have won 91 medals in regional and national contests, which has made VNU the number one in four consecutive years among all of the private colleges.’

VNU is a university of applied sciences and technology. In here, students are encouraged to get certificated in their professional fields and take part in skills competitions. There are 34 professional items and 52 national certification tests offered by VNU on its campus. Students are equipped with professional drills of all kinds to make it easier for them to get certificated. In addition, VNU also hires experienced experts of all walks to help train students for skills competitions so that they are capable of shining on international stages and get awarded to honor our country.
